The large-scale CalArts project called for multiple buildings, a new fire road, renovating the Café, and more site work.  Staples teams took on building a new music lab inside an existing building, building a new 7,356-square foot art studio complex, and a 2-story multipurpose facility for both classrooms and mechanical equipment/storage.  A new bridge structure connected them to existing buildings.

The challenge with all of the work was the deadline.  Work on the Café for instance, needed to take place over the summer, and complete before the start of Fall classes.  We met the no-fail deadline, building CalArts the facilities they needed to keep growing.

Art Building: New single-story 7,494-square foot Art Building project consisted of 16 individual student art studios, a clean-up area, coffee room, IDF room, as well as a large main studio with large clerestory windows, motorized window shades and fabric ceiling panels at the sawtooth ceiling. The project also included Sarnafil roofing, site work, a new metal guard rail and an exterior metal staircase.

Café: Renovation of an existing cafeteria food serving area, adjacent dining area and two existing restrooms with significant structural upgrades and associated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and food service improvements.

Generator Building: Construction of a two-story building with ground level mechanical equipment/accessory storage area and upper level with two classrooms, six faculty offices, and a conference room. Project included a pedestrian bridge for easy access to the main campus building.

Services Provided: Pre-Construction Consulting, Construction Management, General Contracting, Project Development

Technologies / Methodologies Employed: CAD Design and Rendering, Critical Path Method Scheduling

A stand up company, that’s all I can say. The way I look at it, the way a company treats their people tells you a lot about that company. And David treats his people with respect and it shows. Everyone there is great to work with.
