Staples Construction’s Ryan Tauro Awarded “40 Under 40”

What happens when you combine a dry-humored little league baseball manager, an explorer of the Sierra Nevada mountains, expertise to run very large, technical construction projects, and a whole lot of good-natured sarcasm?

Ryan Tauro.

Ryan began his career journey attending Cal State University, Fresno. He joined McCarthy Building Companies directly out of school as a Project Engineer and continued as a Project Manager at Los Angeles-based Bernards Construction.

Today, Ryan is a Project Manager for two of Staples Construction’s multi-family projects and is recognized for his skills in the industry as one of the Pacific Coast Business Times’ 40 Under 40. “NoHo” is a 239,537 sq. ft mixed-use complex in bustling North Hollywood featuring two levels of subterranean parking, one street-level retail that is being built to withstand heavy shopping traffic, and five upper floors of multi-family residential units. “Bryson II” is a 6-story, 14,062 sq. ft affordable housing development in the heart of Western Los Angeles that is designed to bring in the vibrancy of the surrounding community and constructed to last for generations.

We sat down with Ryan to discuss what led him to where he is today:

What made you choose to go into construction?
RT: I started off working for a small residential general contractor in the field doing demo, rebar, concrete, framing, plumbing electrical, drywall, and painting. I fell in love with the ever-changing scenery of a construction project. Every day, I was doing something new, learning something new, and seeing something new.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
RT: It goes hand in hand with why I chose to go into construction. I love that I am learning new things every day. No two projects are exactly the same. Every experience is an opportunity to build from. One of my favorite things about working at Staples is that my ideas are heard and, more often than not, implemented into new company procedures.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
RT: I'd like to be the Director of Construction and promote the expansion of the company with new ideas, procedures, software, etc.
