Advantages of Staples Construction as Your Commercial Construction Contractor

Advantages of Staples Construction as Your Builder

For you to consider Staples Construction for your next project, you’ll need to know the value we bring from Day 1. We’ll make it easy on you. Here are all the advantages you gain working with us.

The Team

  • People Who Take Pride in What They Do. Everyone who works for Staples Construction does so because they care. They care about the projects on which they work, and the people with whom they work each day. It’s no wonder most of our staff has been here for at least 7 years (and some for over 10!).
  • Highly-Qualified Supervisors. Our project managers and on-site superintendents are all battle-tested and highly qualified to direct their teams with time-tested tactics.
  • Technical Competence. Our staff employs the latest unified communications, project management, and 3D modeling software to help us work efficiently and stick to client budgets and timelines.
  • Service to Our Country. We’re proud to employ U.S. Veterans on the Staples staff. Right now our team has representatives from the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Air Force. The leadership and discipline they learned through their service benefits Staples clients every day.
  • Professional Memberships. Staples Construction is a member of the US Green Building Council with LEED-Certified Professionals, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), the Cal Lutheran Center for Economic Research and Forecasting (CERF), and the Ventura County Economic Development Association (VCEDA).
  • Community Involvement. We also donate and get involved in worthy organizations like the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Habitat for Humanity, the Ventura Family YMCA, and Wounded Warriors.

Our Technology

Staples Construction has always embraced the use of the latest technology. It’s one of our strongest competitive advantages in the marketplace.

  • Procore. For managing projects and budgets. Procore gives you all the project information you need, right at your fingertips. Accounting, scheduling, storage, drawings, reporting, and more.
  • Skype for Business. For unified communications between all locations. We put video conferencing systems in all of our job trailers, so our construction sites are connected at all times to the “mother ship” and can receive updates and instructions in real time.
  • Network Video Surveillance. For security and job monitoring. At any point, we (and our clients) can access live video feeds from our job-site cameras. Just to check in.
  • Sketch Up. For accurate estimations. Sketch Up is a 3D modeling software that helps us estimate materials & budgets needed. Sketch Up helps us debug projects before they start!

Extensive Pre-Construction Management

A process hurried past by many General Contractors, Staples Construction has turned pre-construction into a science. By employing hands-on, extensive planning in our pre-construction process, we remove many of the variables that can cause costly delays and overruns later.

  • 3D Technology for Laser-Accurate Estimations. Each Staples bid includes a digital 3D rendering of the proposed project. As David Staples puts it, “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.” This allows for accurate material quantities, and detecting possible conflicts within the design. We prefer finding a potential design flaw in a 3D model, rather than during the construction phase.
  • Fine-Tuning Budgets. With line items for every project aspect, our clients receive some of the most accurate budgets in the business. From sourcing the necessary amount of materials, factoring in potential planning conflicts, and securing the right subcontractors for the job, we provide bids our clients can trust.
  • Asking the Right Questions. Guesswork is not an option. We want meticulously accurate bids, every time. If we aren’t sure on some finer project details, or aren’t sure which subcontractors are the best for the project, we will go so far as to set up meetings between architects/owners and potential subcontractors.
  • On-Time and On-Budget from the Start. The Staples Construction team creates a project schedule that’s as accurate in months and days, as its budget is in dollars and cents. It’s one of the reasons our clients confidently refer their colleagues to us.

Proven Integrity

  • The construction industry suffers from a lack of trust, which is why Staples Construction places a high value on our integrity.
  • All of our projects are value engineered so that our clients get the most value for their budget. Our reputation is on the line with every project, so we’re out to prove it all over again each time!
  • Commitment to excellence is embedded in the company’s fabric. Senior Management is involved as a second layer of Quality Control. Subcontractors are vetted and given regular training refreshers.
  • Every company claims integrity. Staples Construction lives and breathes it.

Established Job Safety Record

  • The Experience Modification (or Ex Mod) measurement is an insurance adjustment based on previous loss experience & workplace safety ratings. An Ex Mod score of less than 100% reflects a better-than-average experience, while a score above 100% reflects a worse-than-average experience. (Find out more about Ex Mod at
  • Staples Construction’s Ex Mod score is consistently 25-30% below 100%. Which means our insurance history and workplace safety are among the best in the industry!
  • How do we maintain that safety record? By investing in annual safety training for all of our superintendents. Safety consultants (2 on every job) teach them as they go, giving us constant safety awareness and an edge in our market. It’s more than most General Contractors do.
  • For our clients, this means that Staples offers your job site a lower risk for accidents. Like our hardhats say: “Think Safety.”
