In its July 2014 issue, the Pacific Coast Business Times announced its 2014 class of “Spirit of Small Business” award winners.  Staples Construction won for West Ventura County, site of our headquarters.

Announcing the 2014 Spirit of Small Business Winners – Pacific Coast Business Times

Spirit of Small Business winners are successful small businesses in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties.  The award celebrates local small-business ownership and entrepreneurship every year, and has for the past 12 years.

Other winners included Old Town Market, the Wallace Group, The French Press, Agnew Multilingual, and Alliance Wealth Strategies.

In addition to the award, the Times included a feature article on Staples in its July 25-31 issue.  Elijah Brumback interviewed David Staples on going through the 2007-2008 recession, how we grew since then, and how diversification keeps the Staples workforce and project base strong.

They even posted a video interview with David on YouTube:  SBA 2014: West Ventura County—Staples Construction Company

Many thanks to the Pacific Coast Business Times, from everyone on the Staples Construction team!  Not just for the award, but for their longtime service to our business community.

Whizin Market Square Awarded LEED Certification by U.S. Green Building Council

We are happy to announce that the Whizin Market Square in Agoura Hills, CA is now LEED-Certified!

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a certification program for building environmentally-friendly, or “green” structures.  It’s based on a points system; the more points you earn with your construction efforts, the higher your LEED rating.

Staples Construction earned 25 points on the Whizin project, by using:

  • Green building materials
  • Green power purchases
  • Water efficiency
  • Innovative designs

Whizin Market Square is a shopping center in the Calabasas/Westlake Village Submarket of Agoura Hills.  The total project size was 32,650 square feet.  The Staples team completed construction in June 2014.

A LEED-Certified project is a notable distinction.  From everyone at Staples Construction, thank you U.S. Green Building Council!
